Angora Goats

Our goal is to produce healthy naturally white and colored angora goats  with fine fleece.  We also strive to have our animals maintain a uniform body structure (conformation) to ensure fabulous off-spring.  We are active members in the Virginia Angora Goat and Mohair Association and the American Angora Goat Breeders Association.

A picture is worth a thousand words.  On the right is an example of our wonderful offspring.  If you are interested in purchasing some angora goats or if you would like to learn more about this docile breed please email us or call 740-256-1866.

German Angora Rabbits

I had the pleasure of meeting Ms. Leslie Samson during the summer of 2007 at the Midwest Fiber Symposium in Madison, Wisconsin.  Ms. Samson was a vendor at the symposium.  During one of many breaks while attending classes, I would wonder around.  Well, one day I started watching a vendor needle felt a life like African creature.  I was amazed (and extremely jealous) at how she was able to needle felt such detail in her project. We chatted for awhile about what we did and where we were from.   I told her about my angora rabbits and the rest is history.  She then introduced herself and I was totally shocked.  I was chatting with the author of Completely Angora  and making arrangements to buy and pick up two of her offspring.   In October 2007 at the New York Sheep and Wool Show I joined up with up my beautiful pair of Germans….Sway and Leopard.    Stay tuned, hopefully there will be kits by early summer.

Fine Angora fiber makes this breed is a spinners delight.  The feel of Angora is heavenly.  The fiber on the German Angora rabbit can be shorn every three to four months.  In addition to their fiber, the wonderful docile disposition of Angora rabbits also makes them a great choice for those who would like to have a rabbit for many other reasons such as pleasure, public relations, 4H or breeding.

Llamas

At Timbre Ridge Farm we have a variety of llamas.  We have show quality llamas, fiber quality llamas, pack llamas, guard llamas, public relations llamas, 4H companion llamas and a rescue llama.

We have some llamas which enjoy visiting parks and meeting people, They like going to nursing homes to provide a little TLC to patients.  They look forward to going to school activities to educate students about “what it's like to be a llama”.  And, they love being centers of attention at festivals such as the Bob Evans Farm Festival held every October in Rio Grande, Ohio.

Our pack gang consists of three light wool llamas which we purchased from New River LlamaTrekking.  These llamas have extensive experience and mileage on various trails throughout the east and west coast.

Through a newspaper advertisement we rescued a light wool llama named Rudy.  It seems that Rudy’s history was a rather unpleasant one because a previous owner had purchased him from an auction.  He certainly does seem to be comfortable at Timbre Ridge Farm.

If you have any questions about llamas, just email us.

Wensleydale Sheep

At Timbre Ridge Farm we have two husky and handsome white Wensleydale wethers named Marley and Lucky and one beautiful black Wensleydale ewe named Ms. Lady.  This trio provides us with beautiful locks that can be used for felting, spinning and doll hair.  According the British Meat and Livestock Commission:  "Wensleydale wool is the finest and most valuable luster longwool in the world.  The Micron count is 33-35, staple length 8-12 inches and the yearling fleece weighs 13-20 pounds.  The fleeces are entirely kemp free as a result of the unique characteristics of the wool-producing follicles. This special quality is genetically transmitted to cross-bred lambs, characterizing the Wensleydale ram as perhaps the leading wool improving sire in the world. Wensleydale wool is used for its special effects and handle in hand knitting yarn, knitwear and cloth and sometimes in upholstery fabrics. Because of its similarity, it is regularly used to blend with mohair."
